Munising-Alger County A Great Place To Live by JoAnn Carlson As Old Indian legend states, "If you wear out one pair of moccasins in the great forest of Hiawatha, you will never leave". I believe the Indian, because I know of no other place on earth that offers the quiet easy way of living, in a modern way. All the things offered in larger cities are offered in the Munising area. The big plus is the four completely different seasons, the hundred of miles of open forests, miles and miles of rivers and streams, plus over three hundred lakes in a fifty mile radius. Included in the lake inventory is Lake Superior, the largest of the Great Lakes. Munising Bay Harbor, part of Lake Superior, offers ideal boating for the small boat enthusiasts, both sail and motor craft, as well as, refuge and mooring for larger crafts. If you are a hunter or fisherman, or a combination of both, you can forget about waiting for the season to open. Our area offers overlapping seasons that the biggest problem is finding the time to switch gears to make your new attack. If you are interested in other activities, summer offers many beautiful swimming beaches, canoeing, sail boating, motor boating, hiking and camping. Our community also offers free public tennis courts. People of all ages are welcome in our many baseball, softball, slow-pitch leagues. Both men and women play. We also have a very nice 18 hole golf course- open to the public. Winter activities consists of snowmobiling, down hill skiing, cross country skiing, snow-shoeing, icefishing or just watching the beautiful winter scenes take place. We also live in an artist and photographer's paradise. If you are not really interested in any of the above reasons to living here, you might want to spend time doing what you usually do, except you can do it here, breathing some of the worlds cleanest air and not worry about your safety. Our crime statistics are exceptionally low. We have a lot of good reasons for living here and not too many reasons not to. Give our area some thought and I think you will agree that you are much better off here than anywhere else.
